Two Hobbies Collide when Taijiquan and the Ride Become One.

I love nothing more than to be out in the elements, absorbing the Yang energy from above and the Yin energy from below.  Often you can find me out hiking the beautiful mountain ranges surrounding my home here in the Matanuska Susitna Valley in Alaska.  Its easy to meaner down the trail, finding great little spots of land to take a break for Taijiquan, Qigong, or meditation.

It was a gorgeous day in June last year when my brother rented a new 2011 Harley Davidson Fat Boy.   I had the chance to take it for a spin, and nothing can get any better than taking a ride on a Harley and shoot a video doing Taijiquan.  I’d love to see where you love to do your Taijiquan and the different hobbies that collide to harmonize into something much greater together than alone!

Spring Qi is Coming!

Spring is on the way and winter is getting further behind, even though here in Wasilla, Alaska it snowed a light blanket of white today.  It will melt soon, the puddles will be out, mud season will be upon us, and the energy from the trees, bushes, grass, and all other life is moving from deep within the earth, waking up to share its beauty with us.

Our March Tai Chi Intensive Four Flowers was excellent and those who participated deepened there understanding of the Master Gear, either creating their own form, or getting detailed understanding of how the transitions within the form work together through joint mobility, structure and body alignment.

Here is the March Newsletter.  This is a project in its infancy, so if you have any ideas, please do share them with me.  I would appreciate any feedback as well.

I’ve discovered a new hobby.  Combining photography, videography, Taijiquan, and Qigong.  I could go outside everyday and do it all, but to combine them I find is the best of all worlds.  Here is my most recent nature walk to Knik River just outside of Palmer, Alaska, April 1, 2011.  Thanks to my awesome husband Daniel, he also photographed me from a distance, which provides a different angel I cannot take myself.

This panorama was taken on my iPhone with Panorama 360.  If you have an iPhone and haven’t discovered this app, it is worth checking out!

Also check out my Spring Qigong video of Ba Duan Gin (also known as Eight Brocades).

Wave Hands Like Clouds on Lazy Mountain

We love Taijiquan here in the little town of Wasilla, Alaska.  The valleys are rimmed by three major mountain ranges: the Alaska Range, the Talkeetna Mountains and the Chugach Mountains. The surrounding mountains include many mountain passes, as well as working and abandoned gold mines. Like many parts of Alaska, the Matanuska-Susitna Valley was carved by glaciers which left many small and large lakes. Both the Matanuska and Susitna Rivers have major salmon spawning streams.  It is the most excellent place to do Taiji, Qigong, and Meditation.  If you are ever in the area, call, email, contact me and let’s play in the “Big, Wild, Life” of Alaska!

This video was captured atop the local trail of “Lazy Mountain.”  The hike is vigorous, and certainly not “lazy!”  The clouds were rolling in and I *had* to be like the clouds, so doing “Wave Hands Like Clouds,” was most appropriate.  My face is flushed from the excellent work out, yet become yin for a moment and become one with the Tao.
